A Williamsburg man was arrested early Monday morning on Scotland Street after assaulting a police officer, authorities said.
Williamsburg Police were called to the area of the College Delly and Paul’s Deli at around 2 a.m. Monday for a report of a fight in progress, said Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department.
When officers arrived, most of the five or six people suspected of being in the fight had left the scene, but 24-year-old Ikeem Rashaun West had come back to retrieve his hat, which he had lost during the scuffle, Riley said.
One of the Williamsburg Police officers approached West to get information about the fight, and West “deliberately drove his shoulder” into the officer, Riley said.
Another officer who witnessed the assault detained West and transported him to Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, where he was charged with one felony count of assault on a law enforcement officer.
No officers were harmed during the incident.
Riley said no one else suspected of being involved in the fight will face charges.
