Severe Thunderstorms with Damaging Winds Expected Tonight

The National Weather Service is expecting scattered thunderstorms to hit the Historic Triangle tonight.

Meteorologists issued a hazardous weather outlook for the Peninsula, saying the area could be hit this afternoon with some severe thunderstorms, potentially damaging wind gusts, isolated large hail and heavy rainfall expected.

In the late afternoon, winds are expected to reach about 20 mph, with a temperature near 79 degrees.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely before 10 p.m., with the temperature dropping to 57 degrees overnight.

Meteorologists expect a rain accumulation of between a quarter and a half inch.

The storm will be over Saturday morning. A high of 71 degrees is predicted for Saturday.
