A man with 12 years of experience serving on the York County Board of Supervisors has pledged to support a Republican candidate who hopes to succeed him.
Author and attorney Chad Green announced Wednesday he is kicking off his campaign for District 3, which encompasses Yorktown, Seaford and Edgehill, on Saturday with the support of Don Wiggins.
“Chad Green understands York County and will represent the people honorably,” Wiggins said in a news release announcing the endorsement.
Wiggins, also a Republican, told WYDaily in March he would not be seeking a fourth term on the board.
Green is going up against Republican Chris Mollenkamp, a Walmart operations manager and the president of the York County Historical Committee.
The two will face off June 9 in the Republican Primary, and the winner of that election will appear on the ballot for District 3 citizens on Nov. 3.
A Newport News native, Green attended Hampton Roads Academy and moved to York County in 2006 to practice law, according to a state resolution commending him on a book he co-wrote called the Crown & Cardinal, which centers around Yorktown.
A commercial waterman, licensed captain and attorney who lives in Seaford, Green said in his March candidacy announcement he is planning a “vigorous, issues-based campaign.”
He is a past vice chairman of the York County Republican Party who also ran for the District 3 spot in 2011 and lost to Wiggins.
Green also ran for the 2011 Republican 91st District delegate seat and was defeated by Gordon Helsel Jr.
Green’s campaign kickoff will be held at Joe & Mimma’s Italian Restaurant in the Grafton Shopping Center on Route 17 from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited to attend the event, which will have campaign literature and signs available.
