Crews from the Hampton Roads Sanitation District responded to a pipeline leak on Hornsbyville Road in York County.

One lane closed around the 700 block of Hornsbyville Road as HRSD worked to repair the sewer line that began leaking Sunday night.

Authorities say the cause of the leak in the 16-inch concrete pipeline is not yet known.

Untreated wastewater from the leak has made its way to Wormley Creek, and HRSD officials said residents who live upstream and downstream of the sewer line break should avoid going in the water until the pipe is repaired.

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and the Virginia Department of Health have been notified and are monitoring the creek.

Anyone with questions or concerns regarding the pipeline break can call the HRSD public information office at 460-7058 or email projects@hrsd.com.
