Much of the second floor of the James City County Recreation Center will likely be closed through April 20 as crews work to install new flooring.
The closures affect the Nautilus equipment, the free weight area and the walking track so the building’s original flooring can be replaced, according to an email from James City County Centers Administrator Carla Brittle.
The rec center is offering to freeze memberships for patrons who only use those areas. Memberships to the rec center are sold for increments of time up to a year, so the frozen time will be credited to pass holders who miss out on the affected areas.
Brittle said she is hopeful the work will not take the entire three weeks and that once work is complete in an area, it will reopen for rec center members to use.
The rec center is located at 5301 Longhill Road near Route 199. It features a gym with basketball courts, cardiovascular equipment, weights, fitness classes, a game area, and an indoor swimming pool.
