Authorities are investigating after a bar brawl left one man with a puncture wound through his cheek and a laceration to his head.
Gloucester resident Jonathan Coates is suspected in the fight that occurred at the Cactus Bar on Route 17 in January.
Witnesses told deputies with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office 37-year-old Coates was “being unruly and trying to pick fights with patrons,” Lt. Dennis Ivey said.
When deputies arrived, they found a man suffering from a puncture wound to his left cheek after it appeared his tooth had come through the skin when he was punched. The man needed stitches for that injury.
He was also suffering from a small laceration on the back of his head, Ivey said.
A two-monthlong investigation led YPSO to arrest Coates in York County on March 23.
He faces one count of aggravated malicious wounding.
