Thomas Mikula, of Williamsburg, died March 24, 2014, at the age of 87.
He was a 1948 graduate of the College of William and Mary and was a member of William and Mary Athletic Hall of Fame, as well as the William and Mary Football Club.
Mr. Mikula was the headmaster with Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, N.H. He previously was a teacher at Phillips Andover Academy and a director of the project ABC Public School Program. Mr. Mikula and his wife, Elva, retired to Williamsburg in 1988.
After his accomplishing career in education, he started the Elva Waltrip Mikula Nursing Scholarship and HEYFARL Scholarship Aid Program for William and Mary Football. He was also a William and Mary Alumni Medallion Award recipient in 2001.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elva Waltrip Mikula.
He is survived by his son, Edward Mikula; daughter, Anna Mikula Pawlewicz and her husband, Richard Pawlewicz; grandchildren, Jessica and Thomas Mikula, Karl and Michaela Pawlewicz and Hannah Pawlewicz Viera; and great-grandchildren, Abel and Xavier Viera.
A memorial service will be held at 1 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the William and Mary Alumni House, 500 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA, 23185.
