Two women were arrested in Williamsburg on Wednesday in a prostitution sting at an unidentified apartment complex.
Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department said 39-year-old Florentina Baires Ponce, of Richmond, took 23-year-old Norma Ramos Antonio to the apartment, where officers monitored a conversation between the two women and an undercover person who was cooperating with police.
The women are alleged to have discussed various sexual acts with the person before Antonio disrobed and accepted $40 for the anticipated act. Riley said police then intervened and arrested both women. The cooperating party is not facing any charges.
Riley said that after the arrests, the women “made conversation that they were engaging in acts of prostitution.” Ponce is facing one count of detaining a person for prostitution and one count of receiving money from that act, both of which are felonies. Antonio is facing one count of prostitution or solicitation of a prostitute, which is also a felony.
Riley said no sexual acts occurred in the apartment between the women and the undercover person. He declined to reveal the location of the apartment complex, as the complex’s owners cooperated with police during the sting.
He said there isn’t any information at this time indicating whether the women are part of a larger network. The last time someone was charged with prostitution in Williamsburg was in February 2010.
