Starting on Tuesday, Jon Stewart won’t be the only William and Mary graduate to have hosted a late-night talk show on MTV.
Sara Schaefer, a 2000 graduate of the school, will co-host Nikki and Sara LIVE, which premieres 11 p.m. Tuesday and will include comedy sketches and interviews. It will broadcast live every Tuesday from a studio in Times Square, according to a William and Mary news story. Stewart hosted The Jon Stewart Show on MTV from 1993 to 1995.
“It’s weird, when we got the call letting us know we got the show, they pointed out that the last time MTV did a late night show, it was Jon Stewart’s,” Schaefer said in the news story. “That felt crazy to me. Only a handful of people at any given time get to host a TV show, and soon, I get to be in that same category.”
Schaefer has a lengthy resume, including a stint as head blogger for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, which resulted in two Emmy Awards. Other writing credits include “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”
Schaefer’s co-host is Nikki Glaser, a semifinalist on Last Coming Standing. She previously worked with Schaefer on a weekly podcast called “You Had to Be There,” according to the news story.
Schaefer double-majored in theatre and English and was one of the first members of William and Mary’s “7th Grade” sketch comedy group.
“I feel very lucky,” Schaefer said, “and I’m pretty sure W&M is now going to be known as the ‘TV host’ school.”
